Broadcast #012: Best Friends Forever Edition! The Year in Review! & 2024's final *bonus* Angel-of-the-Month!
Angelic Transmissions #012 broadcasts tomorrow, Monday December 30th, 12-2pm EST, live via East Village Radio—a very special BFF Edition! Closing out the year it will be just me and Leigha Mason in the little glass booth on First Avenue. We’ll talk about our obsessions (Sandra Bernhard! Berserk!) and misadventures (running our own gallery on the Lower East Side!) For the recurring film segment we’ll discuss Gregg Araki’s Nowhere (1999) which has been an aesthetic talisman over the years (tune in for embarrassing story about us offering him Tupperware full of pierogis in the mid-2000s).
As an extra little treat, I’ve compiled “A HOLIDAY GIFT FOR YOU from Angelic Transmissions” a playlist of songs played on the past twelve episodes of the show, chosen by our guests:

I really love New Years as a holiday, for its intersection of self-reflection and intention-setting, taking stock of the past to decide what to cultivate moving forward.
In that spirit, here is what I’ve done over 2024:
For magazines I wrote articles on: Steven Arnold (BORDER CROSSINGS) Jake Brush (Cultured) RuPaul (Whitney Review of New Writing) Pierre et Gilles & Benvenuto Cellini (both BLAU INTERNATIONAL) as well as my long essay on Tom of Finland (New York Review of Books).
For artist’s monographs/catalogs I wrote: a sprawling account of Josephine Halvorson making a painting (James Fuentes); an oral history of Katharina Grosse’s ephemeral site-specific installations (Centre Pompidou-Metz); Ugo Rondinone’s rainbow-colored sculptures (Kunstmuseum Luzerne); and moderated a conversation on Paul Cadmus’s erotic drawings (Monacelli).
I contributed an introduction to my friend Peter Schjeldahl’s posthumous collection The Art of Dying: Writings 2019-2022 (Abrams) and edited and wrote the introduction to my other friend Dave Hickey’s posthumous collection Feint of Heart: Art Writings 1982-2002 (David Zwirner).
I co-taught grad seminars at Yale (photo) and RISD (painting) as well as two semesters of final reviews at the Hoffberger School of Painting, MICA. I did public talks with Witt Fetter, Pierre et Gilles, David Deitcher, Ulrich Baer, Ed Shad, Terry Allen, Brenden Greaves, Lari Pittman, Christopher Knight, a panel on Geoffrey Hendricks, activated Hunter Reynold’s Dialogue Table (with the love of my life Candystore), as well as a performed my story “For All We Know” in Christine Davis’ exhibition in Toronto (accompanied by the inimitable Love Masisi).
Phew…
Which is to say, I’m grateful to all those publications and their editors (I only work with people I really like) and to the artists whose work has enriched my life so much. I love what I do, and I’m looking forward to sharing so much more of it in 2025.
And now, without further ado, I’m so pleased to present the final *bonus* angel of December 2024:
