The next episode of my talk show — Angelic Transmissions #002 — will broadcast live today (!) 12-2pm EST via East Village Radio. The first guest is painter Stephen Ellis discussing a recent Pierre Bonnard exhibition at the Phillips Collection—we’ll focus on structural relationships between Bonnard’s art and Claude Debussy’s music, while considering the pitfalls of mapping musical ideas onto visual form. For the second hour we will be joined by legendary writer Sanford Schwartz to talk about his new collection Artist Stories (2024) as well as the resurgence of painting in contemporary art, the beauty of still-life, and the role of opinion in criticism.
As Lauren Bacall once said after taking a sip of decaffeinated instant coffee—ummmm…that’s rich!
