Last weekend Candystore and I popped by INTERNATIONAL OBJECTS in Ridgewood to see their high-concept hardware-themed exhibition “Perpetual Screw”.
It’s a tour-de-force of object-thinking, —funny, elegant, and extremely smart— featuring Josephine Halvorson’s paintings of tools, an astonishing giant butt plug made from the steel blades of street-sweeper brushes (!) and… a lot more!
I’ll be there again on Thursday October 12th for a performance by the “modern master of the musical saw” Gryphon Rue at 7:30—you can too! RSPV here!
My new book, Valid Until Sunset can be pre-ordered now from MATTE editions!
SAVE THE DATES!
2nd November 2023 is the book launch for this hot pink silky baby!
Park Side Lounge, 317 E. Houston Street, NYC, 10002, 7-9pm, —following by a night of dancing, DJ’ed by the Leo legend herself Ms. Ana Matronic!
16 November 2023 I’ll be performing an adaptation of Valid Until Sunset with the composer and cellist Anthime Miller at the aforementioned INTERNATIONAL OBJECTS!
I’ve talked about having an art talk show for years and years….and I’m still talking about it! While the form (and the funding) hasn’t clarified—yet!—I have been enacting a kind of “Antiques Roadshow” bootleg version, doing public talks with artists and writers in various venues around the world!
For the upcoming installment, on 23 October 2023, 6pm, I’ll be interviewing Mel Odom at David Lewis Gallery, 111 Reade Street, NYC, on the occasion of his exhibition “Blind Tongue” curated by Michael Bullock.
I’m attaching videos of some other recent talks. Like this one with Helen Molesworth at ART SPEAKS Montreal in May, where we discuss her new book of collected writing, Open Questions, which is out this fall from Phaidon.
Or this one, with irrepressible TABBOO! on the occasion of a show of new paintings in Los Angeles at Karma in July. We talk Liz Taylor, Sister Wendy, Ronnie Spector, oh, and paintings too:
This is a bit of a throwback, from fall 2021 with one of my favorite painters Matvey Levenstein—but I’m including it because he has a truly wonderful exhibition of “Ten New Paintings” right now at Galleria Lorcan O’Neill in Rome.
I know, I know—it’s a lot. So I won’t make you wait any longer to announce OCTOBER’S ANGEL-of-the-MONTH:
